excursion from town by del and tony, today we are starting the last leg late
but clean and rested from some of our ills. Best bit is no 40lb backpack.

damn hot Little wind, blazing sun and hot tarmac is making todays walk a sweaty affair.
Yet no hills, smooth ground and no more stiles makes for good progress.

almost there After spending not the most comfortable of nights under canvas ever we are on
our way again. We have stopped at new burn to get more fluids on and some
brunch. we are aiming to hit the end of the wall today, maybe about five o
clock..... But will see how it goes as once again it is very warm......
Injuries are healing and no new ones had my first shot of scotch in years last
night.... Mmmmmm..... And an exhibition to boot!

team is doing well Taz has been reviewing the teams progress so far and thinks that all the
moaning about blisters and muscles is unfounded. Taz is feeling great, has a
nice tan and has no blisters. Being carried on the back of some one else is the
best way to do this. Come on team almost there.

first glimpses of newcastle It was a long day yesterday which started at quite a blistering pace. From a
tiny village to the first sights of the city. For some mad reason we decided to
extend the day by another 3 miles with the idea of making today a little easier
and then after a poor nights sleep decided to extend today aswell. Madness.

easing down Now coming into halton shields and the terrain is flattening off a little
cooler too we mig just see our first rain..... But we are eating up distance
now we are away from the crags but sadly a lot less wall to be seen here. No
new ailments just managing old ones we are still on time.... And within
budget.....

over the hills but still far far away. Today was the last of the tough walking days as the terrain goes from rocky
crags to more rolling countryside. The walking was made easier by the fantastic
views that unfolded as we crested yet another climb. Pictures have been taken
but no image will convey the impact of the scenery after 6 miles and climbing
500ft. The night was spent in a nice comfortable bed and a chance to rehydrate
our bodies. There has been a few lessons learnt on this trip, dont assume
anything, getting water, buying food, access to banks, in fact anything you
come to expect in your local urban environment. Once more we walk singing a
little tune, thanking the maker of blister packs. stories of Taz and his team
of fluffy walkers continues...

This day has revealed many walking issues for anyone attempting this trip plus
some glorious sights whilst walking through the countryside. The first piece of
original wall we found on our travels. Quickly followed by remnants of a tower
and signal points. More urban areas have used the stones of the wall in their
construction and little remains. Tomorrow will be shorter we hope but the
terrain challenging. weather has been very warm and sunny with expected rain
bypassing us.. So far. Del.

a hard day Today has been tough for us all. The hot weather made dehydration a issue to
think about but made the views amazing. stopped for food at a convenient pub
before the last 4 miles to the hostel we are staying at tonight. Various
walking related issues has slowed us a little yet with some tender care from
nurse sara i think all will be good for us to get an early start in the
morning. Del.

The longest day We are all finally relaxed at our stop for the night. A very tired trio walked
in a little less bouncy due to distance walked but the footie news was
disappointing. Time to relax before tomorrows trek. About 17 miles walked
today.. Del :-)

Finally at the start point After six and half hours driving we are at Bowness on Salway. Thanks vince for
the lift from Newcastle. Starting the way we mean to carry on, we are having a
drink in the pub. Only sixteen miles to the first stop and a comfy bed.

.... The heat is on...... Last minute things to do, bits to pack, work to tidy up, final
inspection of Jamie's rucksack to make sure he hasn't smuggled his Derrick
Oliver cook set in there. Oh... wrong way round... scratch it and
reverse.....looking at the forecast there is a last minute change of equipment,
insulated trousers, fleece and jacket give way to tee shirts, shorts and
copious amounts of water storage.... I am not complaining.........

Last hours of work and last minute preperations We all have our last day at work, some luckily only a 1/2 day. I know I'm
running through my head all the bits I have packed and trying to work out if I
have missed anything. It's the final day to repack before the early morning
start. I have noticed that no matter how many times I re-pack my backpack it
doesn't get any lighter. I was hoping for some sort of Tardis effect but no
matter what I leave out I cannot fit in TV and satellite equipment to be able
to watch the game on Saturday.

Prepared for embarkation... After months of talking, weeks of planning, days of running around, the brave
trio are finally ready to embark on their summer adventure.
All the checklists have been completed, the canvas mansion has been exchanged
for a canvas bungalow, nurse Sara has all the necessary equipment and Del is
prepared to provide general techy support.
This site should be updated a couple of times a day with where we currently are
on the map and the odd diary entry.
Wish us luck and a blister free journey....
